How does positive change happen? By offering hope, says Rev. Faith Fowler, a resident of Detroit, Michigan and Ford owner. The spunky reverend started a program in the city called Detroit Treads, which employs homeless individuals.

The men in the program have different specialized tasks: to retrieve illegally dumped tires from around the city and bring them back to a central warehouse, and to turn those tires into sandals and mud mats. These are then sold on the nonprofit’s website.
